We are pleased to continue the popular WAM film nights with a screening of "No Son Invisibles: Maya Women and Microfinance" and a guest appearance for a special Q&A session after the film by the director, Melissa Eidson.  This promises to be a great evening, with in-depth insight into microfinance issues in Mexico.  In "No Son Invisibles" Ms. Eidson documents the stories of three women in Chiapas, Mexico and the impact microfinance has had on their lives, with Muhammed Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, as our guide. Ms. Eidson's film has been screened at film festivals all over the world and we are excited to have her with us for the evening.

Melissa's latest documentary No Son Invisibles originally screened at Cannes film festival market and the Buñuel Festival in Calanda, Spain, and has since shown at the Fajr International Film Festival in Tehran, Iran, the Torino and Roma Film Festivals in Italy, and most recently at Seattle's Latino Film Festival and the Delray Beach Film Festival. It can also be seen March 10th at the Washington DC Independent Film Festival under the english title: They Are Not Invisible.

Special Guest Appearance, Melissa Eidson

Melissa Eidson was trained in theatre and literature at Oxford and CUNY in New York City. She began making independent films several years ago after working in Mexico City with filmmaker Carlos Reygadas and the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE).  During her long residence in Mexico she produced and directed two documentaries: her first film, El Barrio (2005), explores daily life in the vibrant, working-class neighborhood of Tepito in Mexico City.  It screened at various film festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival, and won Best International Documentary Award at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
